Peter Kay and the award-winning TV show Car Share has inspired employees at Zenith Vehicle Contracts to a greener commute.

Zenith has seen participation in its new car sharing scheme soar following the popularity of the TV series with over 240 staff signing up since launch.

68% of its employees at its headquarters in Leeds have signed up to the initiative. Car sharers are already taking 56,000 miles off of the roads in their local area every year, that’s over twice the miles it would take to drive around the entire Earth. £7,000 will be saved in fuel costs and the environment benefits from a saving of 10 tonnes of CO2.

Commenting on the scheme Marisa Waddington, HR director at Zenith said: “It’s great timing that Peter Kay’s new series has coincided with the launch of our car sharing scheme. Feedback from employees is great with people saving money and making new friends.”

Zenith also supports cycle to work schemes and helps employees keep fit with a range of fitness activities and clubs available at the office.

The company recently announced it is moving to new, purpose-built headquarters in Leeds at the Kirkstall Forge development. The new 45,000 sq ft offices will enhance the company’s environmental credentials. The building is designed to a BREEAM excellent rating and is working toward a low or zero carbon rating. Solar panels are installed on the roof and an innovative energy strategy used.
